Denis,

Stumbled on your article while seeking for Christian perspectives on prepping. I found your article to be spot-on with regard to preparedness industry marketing.

I too believe that "the foundation of a proper, effective and essential attitude is a reliance and trust upon God" is the spiritual component of preparedness.

As I learn more about what I should be doing to be a more "complete" Christian man and husband, I have been seeking God's direction with regard to my role as a husband and my responsibility to take care of not only my immediate family on a daily basis, but also be able to provide for others (Christians or not) who may have need when significant life altering events present themselves.

I found it EXTREMELY time consuming to research and evaluate the myriad of products marketed for "preparedness", and to filter out the unnecessary gadgets to find good gear that will have real value in real emergency/disaster situations. With that, I want to be mindful to NOT let my preparedness activities become an idol in my life, and I want to remind my brothers and sisters in Christ of this as well.

This experience has led me to building a website to help folks find and select the best bug out gear for their particular preparedness needs and help filter and eliminate the unnecessary gadgets.

I pray that you may keep God first and be guided by the Holy Spirit in your preparedness endeavors.

God Bless!

In addition to the above, a reputable food company should:

1. state if their packaging is bisphenol-free or not

2. call out which product ingredients contain MSG:

I am so glad I found this site! I am just starting my food storage "journey" and this is one of the better sources of info I've found. Funny thing is that I was never one to worry about this stuff until my Uncle Ed showed me his food storage shed and educated me a bit on how many things that could happen that could potentially cause a food shortage. It's scary. I'm going to start small, but I am still trying to learn the basics. It sounds simple. I'm quickly learning it's NOT! Thanks for the blog. Great info!

Ya know? I was going to write an article much like this, but you beat me to it. The whole servings vs. calories thing is a big issue with me. Calories are king, and calories per dollar are a necessary calculation. Add in the quality of the calories, as you mentioned, and we're talking LTS philosophy. Excellent awareness point for all your readers. I'm going to re-Tweet this one right now.

you include barter items ( i agree), but you need to tell others what items would be good for barter. I recommend: TP, liquor (also a medical need), chocolate (even if it is old), coffee, spices (most come from other contries),extra anything (ie if you have five blankets and only need 2, trade).
Another thing that people don't know is how to provide nutrional food for their pets. There is a very good one on the market call Sojos that is dehydrated. Or you can make your own with items that most people already have. Email if you want that list.
